Another year, another interstate flag. Now that footy season is over many of you might be wondering what to do until the first bounce of the new year. This is only normal, as footy makes up a massive part of the Aussie cultural calendar, and is something millions of people get around every year to see if their team can make it to Granny Day.
So, what to do now that we have a few months on our hands before the opening bounce of season 2025, let’s take a look at some of the other awesome things that await us over the summer break:
Table of Contents
1.Prep for the new season
If you play for your local club, you will naturally want a bit of a break from the game. A good rest is always important after a tough season of footy. But after the beers, cheers and general rambunctiousness you might want to get back into training mode, just to ensure you’re in good shape for pre-season training and the year to come!
Whether you head to the park with mates for a bit of Jack in the Pack, or take some top quality training gear down for a skill-lifting solo session, the weather is typically better for training than throughout the actual season itself.
As such, head to your local or online AFL store and grab some top quality merch to take out training for pre-pre-season training. Whether it’s a brand new Sherrin, your club’s ‘25 guernsey, some fantastic training aids or something completely different, it’s never really too early to start training again (especially if you simply love the game!).
2.Get around the cricket
Cricket is truly Aussie rules’ partner sport, the perfect off-season game to cure the missing-footy blues and occupy our minds until the new season rolls around. But that’s an understatement, as cricket, like Aussie rules, is one of our two true national sports.
Therefore, it’s only natural that thousands of footy players take up the great game in the summer months of the year. It’s a great social occasion that sees many of the country’s footy players take to the nearest club to play alongside their Aussie rules teammates.
What’s more, we don’t call it the “Summer of Cricket” for no reason: this is the time of year where we get together with friends for a barbie, some beers and watching the Aussies take on the world in this legendary sport!
3.Take up a new hobby
Because the footy season may have taken up a fair amount of your spare time. Between matches and training there is always work, family and social commitments, and now that the season is over you might have more time to take a completely different hobby.
What’s more, a new hobby is a fantastic passtime to enjoy whilst you await pre-season training for the new footy season. Whatever it may be: art, DIY work, gardening, music, there is nothing better than trying something new only to find that you have a true passion for it!
4.Keep fit for footy ‘25
Whether it’s starting light with a few laps around the local oval, or keeping yourself in prime form for the season to come, keeping fit is always a great way to pass the summer months whilst prepping yourself for the spots season to come.
The gym and the local park both offer outstanding opportunities for off-season training and it’s a great way to get ahead for the ‘25 season!
