Black Panther 2 is an upcoming superhero movie, sequel to Black Panther. The movie will continue to explore the world of Wakanda and the characters in the 2018 movie. The sequel is set to start filming in 2021. It is to continue the breaking record and legacy of the first movie.
The first movie was a hit that grossed over a billion worldwide and received numerous awards and nominations. Black Panther movie has the first Marvel Studio to have an Oscar Nomination as Best Picture and the first MCU movie to win an Academy Award.
It has received many positive reviews and critics acknowledged the movie’s cultural significance. The acting of Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and Letitia Wright were also praised. It is considered to be one of the best films set in the MCU or Marvel Comics Universe.

Movie cast
Black Panther 2 will explore more of its varied and rich characters. The tragic news broke of the untimely death of Chadwick Boseman in August. The plans for the sequel that have been confirmed back in 2018 were put on hold. It is understandable as to why.
The legacy of Chadwick Boseman of his role as T’Challa will be honoured and there are no plans to recast the role or the usage of digital double. The talented actor died due to colon cancer on August 28, 2020 at the age of 43.
There is no official statement from Marvel on the castings but there are those expected to reprise their roles. The roles of Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett will be back in the sequel.
Letitia Wright will reprise her role as Shuri, the sister of T’Challa who designs new technology for the country. Shuri is smart and innovative which is more than Tony Stark. Letitia Wright as Suri will take on a leading role in the sequel.
Lupita Nyong’o will reprise her role as Nakia, the former lover of T’Challa and an undercover spy for Wakanda. Lupita has studied and trained in jiu jitsu, judo, silat, and Filipino martial arts.
Winston Duke will reprise his role as M’Baku, the ruthless and powerful warrior and leader of the Jabari, mountain tribe. He protested T’Challa being the new king in the first movie.
Dania Gurira will reprise her role as Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje which is Wakanda’s all-female special forces which covers intel and fighting. The Dora Milaje are T’Challa’s bodyguards.
Dania Gurira has a popular role in the famous television series entitled The Walking dead as Michonne. Playing Michonna required fighting skills in which she applied in the role of Okoye. As Okoye, Dania has her head tattooed everyday for 2 to 3 hours and shaved as well.
Martin Freeman will reprise his role as Everett K. Ross who is a member of the CIA or Central Intelligence Agency. In the comics, Everett K. Ross is a humorous character or comic relief but the filmmakers wanted to depict Everett K. Ross as a capable agent.
Angela Bassett will reprise her role as Ramonda who is T’Challa and Shuri’s mother. She is the Queen Mother of Wakanda and is the adviser of T’Challa.
As for the other characters, Tenoch Huerta known in Narcos: Mexico is in talks to play as one of the villains. As for Michael B. Jordan who played as the troubled villain Erik Killmonger could also return. It was also rumored that Kraven the Hunter might appear as the main villain as Ryan Coogler is interested in him to play the villain in the sequel.
Kevin Feige wanted to explore more of the world of Wakanda, its characters, and different subcultures which have always been the primary focus for the next story. Director and co-writer Ryan Coogler of the first Black Panther film will return for the sequel. Marvel boss Feige has stated that the film will explore the characters introduced in the first film. We will expect to see familiar faces in the sequel.
Sequel Release date
The movie sequel was set to be released on May 6, 2022 but was rescheduled. Black Panther 2 is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2022. Filming will start in July 2021 for upwards of six months in Atlanta.
The schedule was understandably delayed since the actor who played the main character as T’Challa, Chadwick Boseman, died.
Things to know about Black Panther 2
Kevin Feige has asked Ryan Coogler to direct and write the sequel. Coogler was the one who directed and co-wrote the first film Black Panther which was a blockbuster hit.
When the untimely death of Chadwick Boseman happened, Marvel have stated that the plans for the sequel were left uncertain. Victoria Alonso has announced on November 12, 2020 that they won’t use a digital recreation of Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa.
It was at Disney’s investor day which was on December 10, 2020 when Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced that they won’t recast the role of King T’Challa in respect of Chadwick Boseman. Boseman was a talented actor and was praised for his role as T’Challa which captivated audiences as the protector and king of Wakanda.
Ryan Coogler has previously expressed that he wanted to see T’Challa grow as a king and his performance in the stories. The first film was the untold story of how T’Challa rose to power to be the king of Wakanda, a technologically advanced African nation. Since Chadwick Boseman’s role as T’Challa won’t be recast, the story will continue on getting to know more about the world of Wakanda. Also, as getting to know more about the characters in the stories.
Fans have advocated after the death of Chadwick Boseman to have the sister of T’Challa, Suri, to be the new Black Panther. They also want the film to follow the story of the comics.
Black Panther may have multiple sequels due to the big success of the first film. Though, the continuity of the movie after the sequel will depend on how appreciative the fans will be.
