Angela Yee was born on the 3rd of January, 1976. She was born in Brooklyn, New York. Although she was born and raised in New York, she later on spent half of her life in New Jersey. Yee is part Chinese on her father’s side and of Afro-Montserratian on her mother’s side.
Yee would spend most of her free time writing and reading novels. She attended middle school and high school at Poly Prep in Brooklyn, an independent school. Afterwards, she went to Wesleyan University where she majored in BA English. She graduated in 1997.
After she graduated from college, she secured various internships in MTV, TVT Records and became an assistant to the CEO of Wu-Tang Corporation.
Yee soon realizes that she has a skill for marketing and therefore ventures to work for Paul Rosenberg and Eminem’s clothing line company “Shady Limited”, Nile Rodgers’ “Sumthing Else” distribution label, and other clothing brands.
She then saw an opportunity in the marketing department of Sirius XM Satellite Radio where Shade 45, Eminem’s radio station, is at and asked Rosenberg if he could help set up an interview for her.
Yee’s excellent work status has led her to Sirius XM Satellite radio. Angela Yee landed the opportunity of being co-host position on the Cipha Sound Effect morning show. Later on, she was given the opportunity to have her own morning show entitled “The Morning After with Angela Yee”.
Angela is active with her charity works and this includes philanthropic endeavors. She started in 2013, by engaging with an organization that supports women who have disadvantages with their professional attire, career support, and development skills, called ‘Dress for Success’.
In the same year, she supported the breast cancer awareness campaign by posing for the ‘Hairless 4 Her Awareness’ organization and made extended efforts for the ‘Coats for Kids’ organization that brings winter coats to children that are in need.
In 2015, Angela hosted a fundraiser activity for ‘Coats for Kids’, and took photos together with their families. She also hosted in this year the second year event for Children Making Strides Against Childhood Cancer.
Late in 2018, Angela and the National Black Justice Coalition, bringing awareness to world AIDS day. In the same year, she also hosted a ‘Run with Yee’ sports event in New York Park, it is a 5 kilometer run promoting awareness of health.
In Radio: She started her radio career in 2005 with Sirius Satellite Radio as the co-host for the show ‘The Cipha Sounds Effect’.
This includes hosting for ‘The Morning After with Angela Yee’ and ‘Lip Service’ in celebrity Eminem’s radio station at Shade 45. After Cipha Sounds separated from Sirius Studio, Yee got the full time role to host, initially it was called the Shade 45 Morning Show Starring Angela Yee.
In continuation of her career, it was in 2010 when Angela left Shade 45 and joined in the Power 105.1 as a host for The Breakfast Club together with Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy. The radio show is well known for its unique candid approach and where they ask artist some pretty hard questions.
Her show ‘Weekends With The Breakfast Club’ was launched in 2013 and was recognized in over 50 markets. It was featured in Seattle, New Orleans, Miami, Detroit, Houston, and several other states.
