Dagny Baassuik Ayoade is the mother of British actor, filmmaker and comedian Richard Ayoade. Dagny Baassuik is of Norwegian Nationality whereas her husband and Richard’s father, Layide Ade Laditi Ayoade is a Nigerian. Dagny’s son Richard Ayoade was born on 23rd May, 1977 in London, England. The family moved to Ipswich when Richard was a young child. Dagny’s son, Richard became interested in movies upon watching the movie Beyond Star Wars and Back to the Future. He then began researching about the directors of the movie, Woody Allen, Ingmar Bergman, and Federico Fellini. Ayoade attended St. Joseph’s College in Ipswich, Suffolk, before embarking on to study law at St. Catharine’s College in Cambridge. There, he produced plays and won the Martin Steele Prize, and from 1997 to 1998, he served as president of the esteemed Footlights.
Ayoade participated in and created numerous plays while at Footlights. Sleeping Beauty and Grimm Fairy Tales are two pantomimes he co-wrote with Footlights vice president John Oliver. Ayoade performed in the 1997 and 1998 touring productions of Emotional Baggage and Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Footlights (directed by Cal McCrystal).

Dagny Baassuik Ayoade’s son has appeared in the Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd (2006–2013), he played the socially awkward IT technician Maurice Moss, for which he received the 2014 BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance and it is also one of the sitcoms for which he is best known. Dagny’s son has appeared in various movies including The Bad Guys, Early Man, Paddington 2, The Boxtrolls, The Double, The Watch, Bunny and the Bull, Arctic Monkeys: At The Apollo, Submarine, Hello, Friend, etc. He has also written comedy books, which are Ayoade on Ayoade: A Cinematic Odyssey (2014), The Grip of Film (2017), and Ayoade on Top (2019).
Other of his passions include filmmaking, the movie which ignited it was Louis Malle’s Zazie dans le Métro, a french wave cinema. Some of his favourite movies are Tokyo Story, Raging Bull, The Apartment, Badlands, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Make Way for Tomorrow,Barry Lyndon, Contempt, Ordet, and Persona.
