The birth certificate name of Waylon Jennings was Wayland. This name was changed after a Baptist Peacher visited the parents of Waylon Jennings. The preacher congratulated his mother to name Waylon Jennings after the Wayland University in Plainview, Texas. However, the mother of Waylon Jennings was unaware of college and therefore she changed the spelling to Waylon Jennings.
Later, Waylon Jennings also explained in an autobiography that he doesn’t like his name as Waylon since it sounds very corny and hillbilly.
