The Star Trek series has been in a lot of journeys already and the upcoming Star Trek 4 is not even close to filming nor might it actually be.
There was news roaming around that due to the underperformance of the Star Trek Beyond, the upcoming continuation had been “shelved”, as well as doubts having Chris Pane continuing to act as James T. Kirk.
However it was then relieved after a couple of months having uncertainties for fans.
Noah Hawley, creator of Fargo, was thought to be the director of the fourth movie of StarTrek that would bring back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, and others more.
According to an update made in August of 2020, Hawley’s movie has now been on hold at Paramount. In fact, it might not even happen anymore and the fourth movie of StarTrek will be replaced by something else entirely.
So what does that mean? Confused? You should be. Well, anyhow, we’re here to give you everything you wanted to know about a possible continuation of the movie, StarTrek 4, including all of the issues and obstacles it faced so far.
Star Trek 4 : When is the release date? Has the show been cancelled?
So as what can be concluded, Hawley’s movie would finally be the Star Trek 4 that diehard fans have been waiting for ever since the 2016 release of Star Trek Beyond.
In the early months of 2020, Simon Pegg had already been giving bad impressions saying that the series had already lost its touch and now had lost its momentum. The reason he stated was due to the tragic death of one of the main actors of the said movies, Anton Yelchin, and also the underperformance of Star Trek Beyond.
In another interview, Simon Pegg revealed that he does not think that Hawley’s movie would involve the reboot cast. This is somehow true because, like the planned movie of Quentin Tarantino, it would be a separate thing to Star Trek 4.
Well, whatever it was, according to a report in August 2020, the movie that Hawley would be directing will no longer be prioritized by Paramount. It might be quite funny but this is due to the reason that the movie revolved around a devastating virus, which would be somehow ironic as 2020 is where COVID-19 is at its maximum.
So anyway, what would happen with the fourth movie? Basically, we really have no idea, but if we look into and listen to all the updates made by Paramount, it has not been officially cancelled and maybe they are just still holding on to any filming due to the pandemic. So what we can assume as of now, is that they are still potentially developing it.
Despite all the discouragements and doubts over the fourth movie, star John Cho was convinced that it would be made soon enough. As his words say: “To be honest, I mean it’s not happening right now as far as I know, but I just think it will happen. Somebody at some point will all get on the same page and we’ll do it.”
Zachary Quinto, the actor who played as Spock, was not that convinced though and did state that he is hoping that someday they can play those roles again.
And as for the Tarantino spin-off movie, he said that there might be a chance that it would go according to how Tarantino would direct it, but he will not be directing it anymore.
The first idea for the fourth movie was to have a perplexing adventure that would feature Chris Pine’s character, James T. Kirk, in joining the forces with his dad, who will be played by Chris Hemsworth.
Even before the movie gained its doubts, it was rumored that both Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine had walked out from the negotiations to play in the JJ Abrams-produced blockbuster for the particular reason that they wanted both of Chris’ to take pay cuts.
In an interview in May 2019 with Hemsworth about the reason why he stepped away, he said that, in his own words: “I didn’t feel like we landed on a reason to revisit that yet. I didn’t want to be underwhelmed by what I was going to bring to the table.”
Unfortunately, the producers of the movie are unable to convince Hemsworth to come back, and it seems the producers are not doing what they can to make it happen.
Is there any footage of Star Trek 4?
Just like you guys, we wanted to see a trailer or even a paparazzi picture of the characters filming Star Trek 4, but unfortunately, there’s none so far. As much as we wanted to direct you to any available footage, we can’t, and it seems like negotiations are still on its way to continue the project.
