Story plot
The story of Knights of Sidonia takes place around 1000 years after the destruction of Earth by Gauna, the shapeshifting aliens. As the story goes, the remaining humans travel across space in their floating spaceships. But the danger of Gaunas is still not far away.
There is not much knowledge about the intention of the alien force, Gauna in causing harm to the Earth. But there is one thing which is knowledge and it is the core that cannot be demolished until it is secured by Placenta. It is the only way out to defeat the Gauna force. Cutting it would make it easy to destroy the core.
Going to the backdrop of the story, the emphasis is put upon Sidonia, a mothership carrying the remnants of the human race. It is the only spaceship to be considered safe. It is so because the fate of other spaceships is uncertain. Sidonia, the mothership of the human race, comprises its own distinctive culture with a population of around 500k. It is the unique place where reproduction of asexual beings, replications, and human engineering is common.
Just like the alien force Gauna has a special protective shield in the form of Placenta to protect their core, Sidonia is also not far behind in being acquainted with safety mechanisms in the form of Gardes, the high-tech mobile weapon units powered by Higgs particles. The protective element ‘Gardes’ is featured with cannons having the range to combat the enemy forces. It also includes Kabizashi, the special spears made with lesser-known material having the potential to demolish the cores of the Gauna spaceship.
Rise of hero
In Sidonia, many of them are deployed as pilots of Gardes to ensure the safety of the mothership and consistency of the human population. Among the pilots deployed in the spaceship, the series highlights much of Nagate Tanikaze. Briefly explaining about this character, his upbringing took place in Sidonia’s underground layers by his grandfather. Nagate’s childhood had never been like other children’s, as he spent most of his time in seclusion. His maximum time took place in Garde pilot training.
When Nagate grows up, he gets selected in the defense force of human beings. Very soon, he proves his prowess and becomes a vital asset who can challenge the Gauna forces and can even bring them down to death. After rising in the ranks, Nagate is chosen to control Garde Tsugumori, an acclaimed Garde. And so the series Knight of Sidonia exploits the action sequences of Nagate in fighting against odd forces to save humanity.
More about the main character
Nagate Tanikaze
Nagate is the main leading hero of the science fiction and robotic anime Knights of Sidonia. In the series, it shows that he does not have a pleasant childhood while growing up in Sidonia. Due to his unfamiliarity with the human race culture in Sidonia, he was often looked down upon and was seen as a child.
Despite all the odd behavior from other humans Nagate had faced during his childhood, no one had expected that he would be the one in the future who would be given the big onus to save the Earth. Nagate would also become the commander of Garde Tsugumori. Later on, it was found that he was the clone of a real master of Sidonia named Saitou Hiroki.
Besides being a clone, it is also shown that Nagate was engineered genetically to attain immortality with the extraordinary ability of regeneration. Having been trained since childhood, Nagate is presented as a worthy combatant to use all weapons and survive in odd circumstances.
