5 Ways to Fix Gurgling Noises in Your Kitchen Sink

Your kitchen sink is an important appliance in your home. You use the sink for many tasks in your day-to-day chores, making your life more efficient. With continued use over time, you may notice it deteriorates in quality. Sometimes, you may even detect a gurgling noise manifesting in the sink.

You should take the time to understand why your kitchen sink gurgles. The gurgling noise you are hearing could result from some tiny malfunction within. Or, it could manifest multiple issues at play in the back end. Take a few minutes to try and locate the source of this problem.

In some cases, it may result from a blocked vent pipe. Sometimes, the gurgling noise may be due to an unvented drain. Clogs are also a huge problem regarding the various nuisances within your kitchen sink. Once you determine the actual source, you can begin the repair process. Let’s learn how you can fix the gurgling sound in your kitchen sink.

    Table of Contents

    • Call a Plumber
    • Primary Vent
    • P-Trap Fix
    • Run Hot Water
    • Air Admittance

    Call a Plumber

There will be some aspects of your plumbing system that are too complex. As a result, there is not much you can do manually by yourself. Calling a professional from CW Service Pros to diagnose and repair the kitchen sink is best.

A plumber will be the best individual to reach out to in this regard. It may be a bit more costly than other solutions, but it is well worth it. Sooner or later, your kitchen sink will return to normal, with no gurgling noise!

    Primary Vent

Your home will usually have certain systems that act as the source control for other appliances in the home. As a result, you must shut this system off to turn off adjacent devices or appliances. Try to find your home’s main vent for your kitchen sink. This needs to be shut off before you fix the gurgling noise.

Generally, the primary vent can be found on the roof above your main bathroom. Check inside the main vent to see what is inside. You will probably have to manually drain the vent to eliminate any clogs within the system. Once this is done, your kitchen sink should return to normal.

    P-Trap Fix

Now, you will have to consider what is underneath the sink. Most of the time, the noise you hear stems from some issue within the p-trap. The p-trap is a U-shaped pipe that is designed to hold an amount of water. This is to ensure that no sewer gasses come into this pipe.

The p-trap acting as this barrier will sometimes become impeded by various pieces of grime or clogs. Or, the durability may have just deteriorated over time, resulting in more leaks occurring than anticipated. Whatever the case, review the pipe’s status, and fix it using your various tools. That should put an end to the gurgling noise you are hearing.

    Run Hot Water

In what can be the simplest idea of a repair job, you may want to try and run hot water down the drain. Sometimes, you do not have to go about comprehensive fixes. Turn on the faucet, and let hot water run down the drain. After about three or five minutes, turn the faucet off. Turn it back on, and the noise should have been eliminated.

    Air Admittance

Similar to the home’s primary vent system, you may have to assess the status of the air admittance valve. It is a complex system connected to your kitchen sink, but it can become the source of some problems. That is because some drain systems have plumbing fixtures to allow for air.

Should this pathway be blocked, the air pressure will then become distorted. This extends to the functionality of the sink, which can then result in a strange gurgling noise. To fix the issue, you must inspect the fixture’s status. Should anything look deteriorated, it is best to have it replaced. These can usually be purchased for ten dollars at a local store.
